The much awaited Miss Ambassador for Peace /Peace Achievers Award held at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja at the
weekend with people who witnessed the event savouring every minute of it. It could be said to be a gathering of beauty, brain and celebrities.
The pageant which attracted many residents of Abuja and environs, politicians, businessmen, and others would be talk of the town for quite some time as indicated by the huge crowd.
After what many agreed was a keenly contested battle which saw several damsels on the runway, Okwunodu Ngozi Judith emerged winner and was subsequently crowned Miss Ambassador for Peace Nigeria. She was short of words when she spoke to our correspondent after she was presented the keys of the runway grand prize of a car.
“I feel awesome, I never expected it, it is the lord’s doing. I have dreamt of this day but I never knew it would happen this way. My fellow contestants are all queens, they should see themselves as queens, as ambassadors of peace; they should always talk about peace, eat and breathe peace. And to all the youths out there, they should stay away from crime and embrace peace .The first thing I am going to do is to go on an educational campaign to visit the crisis areas in Nigeria and the IDPs. My first step is to have my pet project as soon as possible so as to embark on a peace education campaign, reaching out to the young children in secondary schools in the rural areas and getting them to stay away from crime and violence,” she explained.
In his remarks on the occasion, the grand patron of MAFP/ Peace Achievers Award, High Chief Gabriel Oyibode talked about his love for the youth and entertainment and commended the organizer of the event who he described as his protégé for doing a lot in that regard.
“When you have a child and you see the child growing you will be very happy. It is a great pleasure seeing Peace Ambassador Agency growing, not just growing, affecting lives very positively in the right direction. Today I want to believe that it is going to be a success because of the crème of personalities that are here. All we are promoting in this agency is about peace and education and we can’t achieve peace without love and mutual understanding. It gives me great pleasure because that is my calling and that is what my foundation is all about,” he emphasised.
The CEO/president of Peace Ambassador Agency, Kingsley Amafibe who couldn’t hide his excitement said he felt so honoured, happy and fulfilled pulling the kind of crowd that attended the show.
“Every year we keep improving on the previous years and today it is a dream come true. We have laboured in the past six months planning this event and you can see the success. The previous events we didn’t have artistes like these and this has made us to think of staging the next one in Lagos so that we can attract these celebrities to Abuja and let them know that Abuja is taking over; I bet you we are hosting the 5th edition in Lagos.
“Everything I expected I got it even though there were hiccups. There was an audition followed by a voting process, then we did selection. I believe that the winner can represent the brand, can bridge the gap of friendship, and can relate with the common man. For those who did not win, they have been taught how to take the wheel, they are all brand ambassadors representing their states,” he said.
The event which grooved till about 5am Sunday morning also had Oritse Femi thrilling the guests with some of his popular tunes. He appreciated the fans for coming out to support him and his musical career and promised to continue doing great things for them as he received his artiste of the year award.
